Philadelphia’s Fishtown neighborhood is located in the city’s so-called River Wards due to its close proximity to the Delaware River. For more than a century, Fishtown was a working-class community in which residents worked manual labor in docks, warehouses and trades or commuted to other jobs along SEPTA’s nearby Market-Frankford elevated line and Girard Avenue trolley line. In more recent years, Fishtown has become a gentrified haven for young professionals and hipsters attracted to a mix of urban housing and restaurant options.
