Located in the Appalachian Mountains, Luzerne County in northeast Pennsylvania is part of the Coal Region. Named as such, the Coal Region is comprised of six counties in northeastern Pennsylvania known for their abundance of Anthracite Coal. In addition to the county seat, Wilkes-Barre, other populated metro areas include Hazleton, Pittstown & Nanticoke.
