The Lackawanna Coal Mine in Scranton is a national award winning history attraction located at McDade Park. Mining history is brought alive when you explore the dark, winding gang ways & rock tunnels of a genuine Anthracite coal mine. See how the forefathers worked to fuel the Industrial Revolution & learn the stories of the mule boys & the nippers. Opened in 1860, the mine appears as it did when active & lies 300 feet underground with passages through a rock tunnel leading to several veins of hard coal and other authentic features common to mining.
