BETHLEHEM'S COLONIAL INDUSTRIAL QUARTER

In the early-mid 1700's Moravian settlers in Bethlehem began building an industrial center along the Monocacy Creek, provider of the necessary water for powering mills. Between the 1740's & 1770's the original log structures were replaced with the sturdy limestone buildings pictured. Approximately 35 trades, crafts & industries were represented in the quarter; they included: a butchery, bakery, clockmaker, tinsmith, nailor, carpentry, waterworks, a dye house, mason & candle maker.
