Honesdale, nestled in the Pocono Mountains, lies on the confluence of the Lackawaxen River & Dyberry Creek, an ideal location that fostered the transportation of coal in the early 18th Century. Honesdale is also home to the famed "Stourbridge Lion" (a full sized operating replica is displayed at the Wayne County Historical Society), a steam locomotive purchaced from England in 1829. The train was the first to run on commercial tracks in the US.
