McCONNELLS MILL STATE PARK

McConnell’s Mill State Park in Lawrence County, encompasses 2,546 acres of the spectacular Slippery Rock Creek Gorge. The gorge was created by the draining of glacial lakes thousands of years ago & is known for its steep sides and the valley floor littered with huge boulders. A gristmill built in the 1800’s is located within the park and available for tours. The gristmill originally built in 1852 was destroyed by fire and rebuilt in 1868. The mill processed oats, corn, buckwheat & wheat until it was closed in 1928. The McConnell's Mill Covered Bridge is also located within the park. It was built in 1874 & is one of only two covered bridges in Lawrence County. The county retains ownership but it is located on state park land.
