The Allegheny National Forest (ANF) encompasses roughly 513,000 acres in northwestern Pennsylvania and includes land in Elk, Forest, McKean and Warren counties. Much of the forest is remote with small towns and villages bordering the outskirts. Approximately 463,000 acres are forested and 11,000 acres are covered by water (primarily the Allegheny Reservoir). The forest is comprised of both pine and deciduous trees with a landscape featuring numerous rock outcroppings both small and massive.
