THE OLD JAIL MUSEUM INTERIORS, JIM THORPE

Formally the Carbon County jail, this two story stone building appears as a fortress overlooking the town of Jim Thorpe. Built c. 1870, the jail contains a stone turet over the entrance, about 72 rooms, 27 cells and a dungeon in the basement. It is best known as the site of the hanging of the Molly Maguires in the 1800's & is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
