HOTEL FAUCHERE, MILFORD

19th century Italianate European-style small boutique hotel, restaurant and Patisserie located on a prominent corner in the center of Milford, Pennsylvania's National Historic District. Large, wrap-around front porch, red and white striped awnings, white building with dark green, almost black, shutters on the windows. From the exterior the property looks like the ultimate in Americana; the quintessential idealized small town. Originally built in 1880, the entire three-story building restored to the federal government's historic restoration standard. Public spaces of the hotel feature a collection of original Hudson River School pictures. First floor hallway has vintage black and white checked marble floor, is open clear through to the doors exiting to the garden at the rear of the hotel and has a vintage walnut bannister and newel post on the stairs to the second floor. The hallways are open; one can see to the third floor from the first. The Delmonico Room, on the first floor, is a classic fine dining restaurant, with dark leather banquettes on either side, Parisian-style, with a collection of vintage menus from the great restaurants of Europe in the early 20th century adorn the walls and two classic Josef Hoffman modernist chandeliers hang from the ceiling. The side breakfast room has two walls of full-length windows. Bar Louis, in the ground level, has a contemporary and timeless design aesthetic, with a large photograph of Andy Warhol kissing John Lennon behind the bar and photography by the Hilton Brothers on the walls. Next door to the hotel is the Emerson House, housing the hotel's Patisserie and cafe, originally built in 1902. A classic Queen Anne style structure, the interior has a large open staircase, extensive native chestnut millwork, two fireplaces with extravagant tile and chestnut surrounds. In the rear of the hotel is the red-brick Delmonico's Cottage, a pristine example of Gothic revival Victorian architecture.
