Wilkes-Barre is the county seat of Luzerne County in northeastern Pennsylvania. It was nicknamed "The Diamond City" because of the abundant amount of anthricite coal discovered in the vicinity during the 19th Century. The Pocono Mountains are in close proximity, east of Wilkes-Barre & the Susquehanna River borders the northwestern portion of the city.
