MORAINE STATE PARK

Moraine State Park spans 16, 725 acres in Butler County. The park’s main feature is the man-made 3,225 acre Lake Arthur. The park is named for the glacial moraines that cover the landscape. The moraines were formed at the end of the last glacial period, an era when glaciers covered much of North America. A tongue of the glacier reached into Pennsylvania, as the ice receded it left deposits of gravel, sand and clay; a landscape of gently rolling hills was created.
