The 6,107 acres of Lehigh Gorge State Park run along the Lehigh River from Francis E. Walter Dam in the north to Jim Thorpe in the south. The park is characterized by a deep, steep-walled gorge carved by a river, thick vegetation, rock outcroppings and waterfalls. The Lehigh Gorge Trail also follows over 20 miles of abandoned railroad grade along the river. ***THE PARK IS ALSO HOME TO THE GLEN OROKO RAILROAD TUNNEL. THIS IS AN ABANDONED TUNNEL AKA TURN HOLE TUNNEL. THE TUNNEL IS 496 FEET LONG & WAS CONDEMNED IN 1910.
