The mansion is the 200 year old estate of the Boal Family, founders of Boalsburg. The home contains all of the original furnishings. Colonel Theodore Davis Boal, went to Europe in the 1890's and married Mathilde, a descendent of Christopher Columbus. Mathilde inherited the Columbus Chapel and brought it to Boalsburg in 1909. The Columbus Chapel is a centuries-old chapel of the Columbus family imported from Spain in 1909; it contains the Admiral's Desk of Christopher Columbus, fine European art and two pieces of the True Cross of Jesus.
