PEACOCK HILL ESTATE

The 50 acre estate comprises a combination of woodland, meadow and pond land and includes a large barn structure, a guest house and a large main house of approximately 8000 square feet. The property is located at a distance of about 90 miles from New York City near the Delaware Water Gap area of Pennsylvania, on the outer edge of the Pocono mountain range and is situated overlooking the picturesque Cherry Valley and the majestic Kittatinny Mountain (in the Appalachian National Scenic Trail). The estate was built in the mid 1970’s by a then successful oil businessman who hired a local architecture firm to create a secluded residence. Thus everything from the planning of the mile long private drive and the particular placement of the guest house and main house were all studied and built to exacting specifications of views, light and recreation. The main house area includes, as well as numerous south facing wood decks, a tennis court and half basketball court as well a myriad of walking and riding trails though the wood as the property also has a four stable barns. The owner used the property as a place to entertain his business associates from around the world and there is even evidence that one of the lower fields that was leveled to serve as a helicopter landing pad. The house is clad and finished in California Redwood planks that in the main areas also form the cladding of interior walls. Large expanses of glass feature on the south façade while studied openings to the north focus on views across to the woods or onto the moss and rock garden that stretches across the north side of the house. A caretaker couple lives in the guest house on the premises and is available to facilitate logistics.
