RAILROADERS MEMORIAL MUSEUM, ALTOONA

Altoona reigned as one of the most important railway facilities in the United States and was home to the Pennsylvania Railroad's construction plant, test department and maintenance & repair shop. In the 1920's the Altoona site employed 15,000 workers; by 1945 it was the largest rail shop complex in the world. The museum serves as a tribute to this important industry and its contributions to the growth of the United States.
