SIZERVILLE STATE PARK

The 386-acre Sizerville State Park in Pennsylvania’s Cameron & Potter counties is almost entirely surrounded by Elk State Forest. The park is named after the nearby ghost town of Sizerville; the end of the logging boom of the late 19th century left the town virtually abandoned. The Depression era Civilian Conservation Corps led the effort to reforest the lands surrounding Sizerville in the 1930’s (thousands of acres of old growth timber had been logged in the region). The CCC planted thousands of acres of white pine and hemlock trees & today these trees have reached maturity and comprise most of the forested acres of the park.
