Jennings Environmental Education Center is a 300-acre state park in Butler County that provides a distinct combination of prairie and forest. One of the park’s main features, the 20-acre relict (organism or species of an earlier time surviving in an environment that has undergone considerable change) prairie ecosystem, is home to a distinctive variety of prairie plants; the most unusual and spectacular prairie flower is the blazing star. The prairie, a rarity in Pennsylvania is in full bloom in late July and early August. Big Run, a tributary of Slippery Rock Creek, flows through the center, which shares its’ border with Moraine State Park.
