Perched along the Monongahela River in Allegheny County, the Carrie Furnace Works are located near the old steel town of Braddock. Carrie Furnaces #'s 6 & 7 are the only non-operative blast furnaces that remain standing in the Pittsburgh area & serve as a historic example of pre-WW II iron/steel technology. Built in 1907, they were active iron producers for Homestead Works until 1978. Today they provide a dramatic backdrop for filmmakers interested in apocalyptic scenes.
