Kentuck Knob, a "Usonian" home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright is located about five miles from his more famous Fallingwater. The term Usonian was coined by Wright to reflect his vision of affordability for the average buyer. Constructed of local sandstone & tidewater red cypress, ground was broken in 1953 & the house completed in 1956. The one story home has an open floor plan, extensive glass throughout and a cooper roof. Placed just below the crest of a hill it rises 2050 feet above sea level and gives the appearance of being part of the mountain. It is privately owned but open to the public for tours. The owners have enhanced the beauty of the property by adding numerous sculptures to the grounds from their private collection.
