Founded by the citizens of Slippery Rock, the college opened March 26, 1889. A steady expansion of programs lead to Slippery Rock being granted university status in 1983. The campus spans 650 acres comprised of over 40 buildings. Slippery Rock University is one of fourteen state-owned institutions.
