Ground was broken for the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in 1924. Still unfinished, construction was halted in 1929 after the stock market crash, but by 1931 the unfinished Cathedral was opened for mass. It took another 28 years to raise the funds to complete the Baroque Revival style Cathedral. It was formally opened in November of 1960.
