Scranton in northeastern Pennsylvania is the seat of Lackawanna County. It is the largest of the former anthracite coal communities in the Coal Region and was incorporated as a city in 1866. The Coal Region of northeastern PA is known to have had the largest known deposits of anthracite coal in both North & South America.
