Concrete City, Nanticoke in Luzerne County was built in 1911 & opened in 1913 as a company town. The Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad’s Coal Division constructed twenty two, two story, seven room houses for mine supervisors and other VIP employees. Painted white with green trim, the homes faced a courtyard; amenities included: tennis courts, a wading pool and baseball field. The “city” also included a school built in 1913.
